“I felt suicidal and thanks to the Money Mentors this pressure has been lifted”
The Money Mentors worked with a man who lives with his wife in a council rented house and was not working. In the past 12 months the client started to receive universal credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and has been suffering with mental health. Where finances where concerned the client has some debt with a credit card due to the client being over his credit card limit by £1,691.11.
The Money & Me project team worked with the client on a one to one basis to call the credit card company on behalf of the client to put a payment plan in place for £20.00 a month via direct debit. The client felt more comfortable with this as it was easier for him to keep up with the payments. All interest and fees were frozen to make sure that the balance will only go down and once he balance is cleared the credit card will close automatically.
The outcomes achieved for the client was the payment plan in place was able to put the client at ease both financially and mentally. The client felt free and happier after this and they would be happy to come see Groundwork West Midlands again after this outcome if any further help is required.
“I feel less stressed and happier after getting help from Groundwork”
The Money Mentors worked with a 36 year old woman who lives with her 2 children in privately rented flat. The client is receiving universal credit and carers allowance. The client needed help with Sky bill of £142.63 and some support purchasing school shoes for her children.
Working with the client on a one to one basis the Money Mentors were able to contact Sky on her behalf to make a payments plan. The Mentors were also able to get the client food parcels, a bus pass for 12 months, O2 Sim card for the next 12 months, home visits from Groundwork West Midlands Green Doctor for support with gas and electric alongside school shoes for her children.
The first outcome was dealing with the Sky debt, the Money Mentors managed to contact the company on the clients behalf and make a payment plan of £10 a month. The second outcome was the food parcels that were delivered on behalf of the Wolves Foundation, which helped the family reduce their food shopping bill. The third outcome was the 25GB data voucher through the national data bank for the next 12 months, freeing up money that can be spent on more priority bills. The final outcome of the project was the school shoes that were able to be ordered through the breaking barrier fund of the project.
Overall the client feels less stressed and happier after getting help from the Money Mentors. She felt the help was great, and was really grateful for all the support that was given to her family.
