Home Grown

What is Home Grown?
In 2022 we launched Home Grown as an online course that was designed to support people with busy lives. Since then, more than 2500 people have joined us to grow their own fruits and vegetables at home. Groundwork have sent families and older people their very Home Grown packs. These include:
- Welcome letter
- Seeds
- Tools
- Pots
- Gloves
- Labels
- Grow bags
Those involved also have access to free online content, including ‘how to’ videos, resources, recipes and craft activities, and families can also engage with other families, sharing photos of what they have been up to and learning from each other on our private ‘Home Grown’ Facebook group.
Why do we need Home Grown?
Learning how to grow your own fruit and vegetables is not only a valuable life skill but incredibly beneficial to people’s physical health and wellbeing. People across our communities are facing rising living costs; food poverty is on the increase and there is an urgent need to respond to the climate crisis.
To enable everyone to benefit from being active outdoors we recognise the importance of making information and support freely available. We provide the information and guidance for anyone, no matter their age or experience, to grow in any space however large or small. The content is shared online so it can be accessed as and when people wish. It can be accessed by just one household or by a group of neighbours or friends.

How can you help?
We want to continue growing Home Grown, bringing the benefits of being active outdoors and the joy of growing to as many people as possible, and for the 2025 growing season we’re looking for funding and sponsorship to make sure Home Grown is always free for people that want to take part:
How you can get involved:
- You can order packs for your service users or make a donation to cover the cost of packs for people in your communities:
- 10 person pack for a group is £150
- Individual pack for a household £30
- Donations of materials for growing packs such as seeds, tools and gardening gloves
- Volunteer your time to help us put packs together
Let’s talk…
We would be very grateful if your organisation would consider being involved. Please get in touch if you would like to learn more about Home Grown or the sponsorship details. We would also be delighted to meet with you to share samples of the materials, case studies and feedback from the 2024 programme if appropriate.
