• The London Plane is probably a hybrid, between the Oriental Plane and the American Sycamore.
  • It is one of the few trees that could thrive in the soot-laden air of the cities before the Clean Air Act was brought in.  The trees are often found along city streets to this day.
  • These trees live a long time.  Some of the trees in London are thought to be over 200 years old.
  • The bark falls off in large flakes leaving whitish-yellow patches.
  • The wood is used for veneer, plywood, interior trim, pallets/crates and flooring.
