Groundwork supports people to improve their life chances so that everyone in Greater Manchester can feel good in themselves, live warm and well in their homes, have meaningful connections with others and work in fulfilling, futureproofed careers.

We prioritise supporting people who are marginalised or at risk in Greater Manchester, including but not exclusively:

  • Young people facing, or at risk of, exclusion
  • Armed Forces Veterans
  • People in fuel poverty
  • Care experienced people
  • People with poor health
  • People with a criminal record
  • People at risk of the impacts of climate change
  • People who are actively involved in their communities and those who would like to be

Our team of professionals deliver the following support services to help improve peoples life chances:

Why is our support needed?

Inequalities and injustice

It’s well evidenced that where you are born and where you live effects your life outcomes. We’re working with people and in places where additional support is needed most so that everyone can access the opportunities they need to achieve their goals.

Health & wellbeing

Health and wellbeing is effected by a number of factors, from what do you for work, your relationships and even your access to greenspace. By providing dedicated support services, we help people improve their health and wellbeing, one factor at a time.

Just transition to net-zero

Carbon-intensive jobs will need to be phased out in order to create a carbon neutral city by 2038. We’re developing training in a range of sectors including energy, construction and the natural environment, and working with marginalized groups, to ensure a ‘just transition’ to a greener economy.

Reducing fuel poverty

Approximately 15% of homes in Greater Manchester are experiencing fuel poverty. The additional costs of heating can lead to people choosing whether to eat or heat. Prolonged exposure to cold conditions can lead to damp and mould forming, which cause a variety of medical problems.
