From 2021-2023 Greater Manchester was one of seven national test and learn sites delivering NHS England’s Green Social Prescribing Programme that explored using our connection with nature to improve mental health.

Groundwork was one of eight partners who developed Nature for Health; a programme which explored how practitioners could support people with mental ill health, by offering connection to the natural environment through referral to nature-based activities, groups and organisations.

In addition to delivering green social prescribing activities in Manchester, our team collated and shared digital resources that helped support the scaling up of green social prescribing and created the Nature for Health website as a digital hub to share these resources, latest nature and health news and upcoming training opportunities:

In addition to creating the programme website, we developed practical templates designed to increase the delivery of green social prescribing, these included:

DELIVERING ACTIVITIES FOR GREEN SOCIAL PRESCRIBING

THE GREEN SOCIAL PRESCRIBING SUPPORT NETWORK

INTEGRATING WELLBEING INTO YOUR NATURE-BASED ACTIVITIES

Groundwork continue to be an active member in the Nature for Health steering group, working with partners to improve mental health outcomes for people across Greater Manchester, reduce health inequalities, and subsequently reduce demand on the health and social care system.
