‘I was down before the programme, I love how it’s made me feel my true self’ – Maryam’s Story
Over the past year, Maryam has been part of our SAFE Achievement Coaching programme at Abraham Moss School, which encourages young people to open up about their experiences and realise their potential through both individual and group sessions.

At the beginning of the Achievement Coaching programme, Maryam struggled to talk about her feelings, she talked about being overwhelmed a lot & not knowing how to express what those feelings were. She’d also been struggling socially in school, she had lost trust in people due to friends being unkind in primary.
Luckily, the coaching not only helped her to feel like she could express herself, but also pushed her to try new things.

Maryam loves to be in nature, but had never done a hike before. In the summer holidays, Frankie took her to Rivington Pike.
Maryam struggled with the last 10 minutes of the hike & took a long break just before reaching the top. She said she couldn’t do it, so her and Frankie sat together whilst she caught her breath.

Maryam decided she wanted to get to the top, so they walked the last steps together, counting each one. She completed the hike with a big smile, pleased she pushed herself.
When asked about the experience, Maryam said:
…I should do things like this more often, I had a great time!
