Young person (Kobe) talking to at the Prince's Trust final presentation.

Background

Kobe felt lost when he was struggling to find employment. He was approached by Team Leaders from the Prince’s Trust TEAM Programme during his visit to the job centre. They explained what the programme covered and how it could benefit him, and Kobe signed up to the programme without hesitation.

Joining the Prince’s Trust TEAM Programme

The programme wasn’t easy for Kobe to begin with. The decision to join a programme with 11 strangers was quite daunting, and he was challenged in ways which pulled him out of his comfort zone. But he felt that this improved his confidence immensely, and he’s made lots of new friends as a result of the programme.

Programme highlights

A highlight for Kobe was completing a two-week work placement at a warehouse. These placements give the young people an insight into the working world, and for many it’s their first experience of work. Kobe really took to the work – getting stuck into every task, forming a routine, and gaining a strong work ethic.

Next steps at the Prince’s Trust TEAM Programme

Since completing the course Kobe has secured full-time work in the same warehouse where he did his work experience. The warehouse manager said he didn’t want to lose Kobe and the qualities he brought to the team.

He added;

I’m extremely proud of myself for sticking with and completing this 12-week programme. It has made me realise what key skills I have, and what skills I need to continue to develop.
