Joan is 89 and lives in Rochdale. A few months ago, her boiler broke, and she was left living in the cold, in need of help.

Her daughter Jo approached Groundwork after meeting the Energywork’s team at a community event. She had spoken to other services, but they were unable to help due to one reason or another. Jo was starting to worry for her mother, who didn’t have the funds to purchase a new boiler.

As Joan suffered from Multiple Sclerosis and Cystic Fybrosis , we were able to place her on the Warm Homes Rochdale programme, which helps ensure people with health conditions stay warm in their home.

We arranged for some emergency measures to reach Joan and for an installer to fit a new boiler ASAP. In addition, Green Doctor Shammy visited Joan and fitted a range of small measures such as radiator foils and draught excluders which would help keep the heat in and her bills down.

Joan commented afterward,

Absolutely brilliant! It was done in half a day. My condensing boiler was broken, and I couldn’t get help. I am so happy and grateful to Shammy, I can’t thank you enough.
