Jenson, a young care leaver, was referred to the Green Jobs Pathfinder project in July 2024. Having recently completed his Level 2 qualification in plumbing, he was passionate about pursuing a career in the field. However, due to his young age and limited experience, finding employment proved challenging.

Keen to explore new pathways, Jenson expressed interest in our green sector placements. Following a successful interview, he was offered a placement and seconded to EDGE EPC as an Assistant Retrofit Installer, working across Greater Manchester.

From the outset, Jenson approached his placement with enthusiasm, dedication, and a strong willingness to learn. Over the course of the programme, he developed a wide range of skills and became an invaluable member of the EDGE EPC team.

During his time on placement, Jenson achieved several additional qualifications, including:

  • CSCS Card
  • Manual Handling
  • Customer Service
  • Carbon Literacy Certification

These qualifications not only enhanced his employability but also reflect his proactive attitude toward personal and professional development.

Jenson’s journey was not without its challenges. He faced ongoing issues related to housing and financial stability, as well as injuring his hand during the placement. Despite this, he remained committed, showing up every day with determination and a smile.

Feedback from colleagues has been glowing, with colleagues sharing positive feedback such as:

He’s able to make the job his own.

He brings a smile to everyone, he applies himself and I’m proud of him.

Kelly, his mentor during the programme, also added:

He has been a pleasure to work with and has shown such capacity and determination to learn, I could not be prouder of him.

Thanks to his hard work, positive attitude, and consistent performance through the Green Jobs Pathfinder, Jenson has been offered a full-time, permanent employment with EDGE EPC upon completion of his placement. He’s also been shortlisted for the 16-19 Learner of the Year reward for the GM Skills Awards.

We wish him the best of luck in his new permanent position.
