Engaging Stakeholders With Biodiversity Net Gain and Urban Greening in Manchester

In 2023, Groundwork Greater Manchester were appointed by Manchester City Council to carry out stakeholder engagement for the Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and Urban Greening Factor Study with The Ecology Partnership and Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

The project explored future development in the city and the opportunities off site Biodiversity Net Gain posed for Manchester’s greenspaces.

Our team complied a stakeholder database and delivered several workshops with stakeholders and Council Members which:

  • Introduced the new policies
  • Shared existing findings from The Ecology Partnership and Lancashire Wildlife Trust
  • Explored site constrains
  • Explored different prioritisation methods for greenspaces sites.

The workshop outcomes were presented to Manchester City Council in a report.
