Double Celebration For Community Growing Projects

There was cause for double celebration recently when two of our community growing projects were successful at the North West in Bloom Awards.
The awards, which take place each year, are organised and judged by the Royal Horticultural Society. Grow Blackpool and Grow Speke both achieved 5 Star ‘Outstanding’ ratings.
Grow Blackpool
Grow Blackpool is based at the @TheGrange community hub at Grange Park in Blackpool.
It hosts volunteering sessions three times a week, where everyone is welcome to join the group. It’s a chance to learn how to grow your own fruit and vegetables, even if you don’t have a garden or much space. You’ll meet new people and become more active. This will help you to feel healthier and more confident about yourself.
The site is fully accessible, with two polytunnels, raised beds and a pizza oven on site. The group often cooks and eat some of the food grown on site. Some of the produce grown is taken home by our volunteers, with the remainder used by @TheGrange’s community cafe.

Grow Speke

Grow Speke is a community hub in South Liverpool. It is a partnership project between South Liverpool Homes and Groundwork CLM.
This vibrant community garden and food growing hub was once a derelict site. It is now a thriving place where people from the local community can make new friends, learn new skills and improve their own health and wellbeing. Regular volunteers say that being involved with Grow Speke helps them improve their physical and mental health and provides an opportunity to give back to the community.
