The Career-Mums Work Restart Programme is aimed at enabling women who have taken time out of the workforce – most likely for family care related reasons – to get back to work, whether this is through part-time employment, full-time employment, starting their own business or retraining for a future new career.

The main activity is delivered through virtual group workshops designed to be welcoming, engaging and relevant to the participants, whilst enhancing their digital skills.

ESF Community Grants have enabled Career-Mums CIC to run three Work Restart Programmes over the last 18 months. During this time, they have supported over 40 Coventry and Warwickshire women back into work after they’ve had a career break for a variety of different reasons. The majority of the women that the project have supported during this time have not worked for over two years, many have been on benefits and have had multiple barriers to gaining employment, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Through the supportive and engaging programme, the organisation have been able to help participants work out not only what type of work they want to do, how to fit this around family responsibilities but also help them to find their ideal work. Some of the roles that participants have gone into include project manager, care coordinator, data engineer, office manager and teaching assistant. Some have gone on to set up their own business, join a training course and also volunteer as a stepping stone into a new sector of work.

Sally Dhillon, co-founder of Career-Mums, said:

We love getting to know our participants through our Programme and seeing their confidence and career-readiness improve through our support. Many participants tell us that the programme has been life changing as it has given them a new sense of motivation and optimism for the future. The ESF Community Grants have enabled us to dedicate a high level of support and resources to overcome the challenges that had so far prevented them from work.
