“He’s made positive changes in such a short period of time” – Jethroe’s Story

Jethro moved to Rochdale last year because he felt unsafe in his previous home. He began working with the Turning Point team due to his alcohol dependency and the knock-on effect this had in securing safe and secure accommodation.
Although the Turning Point team managed to secure accommodation for Jethro, no partner organisations were able to get Jethro to consider employment. Jethro was insistent that he wanted things to stay as they were, fearful that changes in his financial situation would affect his accommodation status.
Groundwork’s Employment Specialist Tyron met with Jethro and shared stories that dispelled the myths about residences living in supported accommodation and being in work.
Tyron explained how quality employment would help provide Jethro with structure and a sense of achievement as he progressed through his recovery journey. Jethro came on board with the Groundwork Individual Placement Support programme, which takes a people centred approach to help people reach their goals.
Tyron explored career choices with Jethro and found that he had a vast amount of experience in the industrial sector. Together they worked on enhancing his CV and looking for suitable employers.
A role was found at Danish Crown as a Production Operative on a full-time permanent contract. Before applying, Tyron completed a ‘Better Off Calculation’ with Jethro to showcase the difference work would make to him, as well as finding funding so he could travel to work and purchase suitable clothing.
Jethro has been in his role for 5 months now and is doing well, completing his alcohol reduction plan with Turning Point in 2024. Tyron check’s in with both him and his employer regularly to ensure all is going well.
His Coach at Turning Point added,
I am so happy Jethro has made positive changes in such a short period of time and is doing well living independently.
