The two Sams on the River Douglas in Wigan

Learn new skills. Meet new people.
Make a difference.

The Love My River project is looking for volunteers to help look after the rivers and streams within the Douglas Catchment.

  • Help us monitor the river by learning how to check water quality and understand the sources of pollution that threaten our water bodies. An opportunity for you to get yourself various types of training, both informal and certified.
  • Be involved with overseeing improvement works to the local rivers, streams and wetlands and the associated riparian zones. Help us with a number of different environmental tasks ranging from invertebrate identification/recording, to litter picking and even invasive non native species mapping and removal.

Whether you are a keen ambassador of nature, an academic looking to gain some field experience or someone just looking to spend some time in nature and meet like minded people there is a place for you volunteering with the Love My River team.

Be involved with overseeing improvement works to stabilise the river banks and create natural flood management.

Volunteer sessions will also be advertised next year to eradicate balsam from the site and encourage native plants to flourish and increase the wildlife living in the park.
